Medical Weight Loss FAQs

What is medical weight loss?
Medical weight loss is a personalized, medically supervised approach to weight management designed to help patients lose weight safely and effectively. Programs may include nutrition guidance, lifestyle counseling, prescription medications, and ongoing support tailored to your goals and health history.

Who is a candidate for medical weight loss?
Medical weight loss may be appropriate for adults who struggle with weight management, have weight-related health concerns, or have not achieved lasting results with diet and exercise alone. A consultation helps determine the best treatment plan for your needs.

What treatments are included in a medical weight loss program?
Treatment plans vary based on your goals and medical history but may include:

  • Nutrition and lifestyle counseling

  • Exercise recommendations

  • Prescription weight loss medications

  • Body composition analysis

  • Ongoing monitoring and support

Are weight loss medications safe?
When prescribed and monitored by a qualified medical provider, weight loss medications can be safe and effective for many patients. Your provider will review your medical history, current medications, and goals to determine the best option for you.

How much weight can I expect to lose?
Results vary depending on your metabolism, lifestyle, consistency, and treatment plan. Many patients experience gradual, sustainable weight loss over time with proper adherence to their program.

How long does a medical weight loss program last?
Program length varies based on individual goals. Some patients participate for a few months, while others continue longer for ongoing support and maintenance.

Do I need to follow a strict diet?
Most medical weight loss programs focus on creating realistic, sustainable eating habits rather than extreme dieting. Your provider will help develop a nutrition plan that fits your lifestyle and goals.

Will I need to exercise?
Physical activity is often recommended to preserve muscle mass as part of a healthy weight loss plan. Your provider can help you develop an exercise routine that matches your fitness level and supports your results.

What happens during my first consultation?
During your consultation, your provider will review your medical history, discuss your weight loss goals, evaluate lifestyle factors, and create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your needs.

How quickly will I see results?
Some patients notice changes within the first few weeks, especially when combining medication, nutrition, and lifestyle modifications. Healthy, sustainable weight loss is typically gradual. We typically recommend 4-10 pounds of weight loss monthly.

Can medical weight loss help with obesity-related health conditions?
Weight loss may help improve certain health concerns associated with excess weight, such as high blood pressure, insulin resistance, sleep apnea, and joint discomfort. Individual results vary.

Is medical weight loss covered by insurance?
Insurance coverage varies depending on your provider, plan, and the treatments prescribed. Our team can help review your benefits and discuss available payment options.

What happens after I reach my goal weight?
Long-term success focuses on maintenance and healthy lifestyle habits. Many patients continue periodic follow-up visits for accountability, support, and weight maintenance guidance.

Can medical weight loss be combined with other wellness treatments?
Yes. Medical weight loss programs are often combined with wellness services, nutritional counseling, hormone optimization, or body contouring treatments depending on your goals and provider recommendations.

How do I get started?
Getting started begins with scheduling a consultation at our Downtown Columbus GA weight loss clinic. During your visit, we’ll discuss your goals, health history, and create a customized plan designed to help you achieve long-term success.
